Sultan sits at the point on US-2 where subdivisions give way to acreage, and the housing reflects it: a compact older core, newer building on the hillsides, and a lot of property out toward the Sultan Basin on wells and septic rather than city services.
Electric resistance heat — baseboard, wall heaters, ceiling panels, electric furnaces — is far more common here than closer to Everett. If that is what you have, a heat pump is the single biggest change you can make to a winter power bill: resistance heat gives you one unit of heat per unit of electricity, and a modern heat pump gives you roughly three. On a Sultan house heated by baseboard, that difference compounds every cold month for the life of the system.
